This single-family home sits on a narrow street in Albuquerque’s Barelas neighborhood, just a few blocks from the Bosque Trail—one of the city’s most valued open space amenities—and within close proximity to downtown. Both the lot and the home are compact by design. The project follows our Cromwell model, with a building envelope constructed from SIPs, consistent with most of our homes.

Given the intimate scale of the street—more akin to an alley—it’s important that the front porch meaningfully engages the neighborhood. To achieve this, the house is elevated so the porch sits above street level, creating a more comfortable and secure vantage point reminiscent of traditional Victorian homes. This approach not only enhances the sense of privacy but also necessitates a crawl space, providing the added benefit of elevating the structure above potential flood levels, as the site lies below the elevation of the nearby Rio Grande.
